"Magnum P.I." 1980-1988, Starring Tom Selleck, John Hillerman, Roger Mosley, Larry Manetti. Selleck is a Vietnam Navy vet who retires and becomes a private eye in Hawaii. A huge amount of island scenery was included in the show, including lots of helicopter sequences, which also gave the helicopter ride business in Hawaii a huge boost in popularity. The highly successful show ran for eight years, completing 162 one-hour episodes. It was created to fill the void left by the ending of the Hawaii 50 series and Magnum picked up the football and ran with it. When it ended, several other CBS attempts were made to create another follow-on Hawaii themed show but none succeeded. "Baywatch Hawaii" tried to fill the "Hawaii Show" niche. |
